Why was this given green lit for a reboot? In summary; this group of characters have to work
together so that they can escape this Hundred Mansion, which has been recently
purchased by Gabbie [Rosario Dawson:] is a doctor, unfortunately a widow but
she has a young son by the name of Travis [Chase W. Dillon/Chase Dillon:] he
misses his father and struggles to make friends.
The framework and pacing of this
123 minutes film is straightforward, as in it knows what it wants to do and it
sticks to the plan.
Art: let's
begin on this film's biggest asset, but even this has some strange problem the
art really does capture the horror theme; be it from this Mansion and the
costume designs of the ghost or/and this back story of this character that Prof
Bruce Davis [Danny DeVito:] a professor of history at this college known
as Tulane University, which has been
waiting a long time to get inside this location. But back to here and now, he
gives us this information via the format of storyteller/voice-over and sequence
of events; this sequence of events is captivating. The person I watched some of
this content with said this film is dark [not by content] and after this
individual had told me, I could see it. Meaning in hindsight I should have
picked up on it but never mind.
Action/Comedy:
there isn't much that stands out for me on both of these categories; Prof
Davies eventually has got himself into this Mansion, he makes it a little way
in and then quickly rushed by the chair with the ending result of him and other
characters taking a trip to hospital, we also have other little bits and pieces
[any spoken word or/and outlay or anything else if I have missed anything] like
eggs puns and a small moment of a reference to Scooby Doo skit, where there is
this corridor of doors a row on each side, where the monster could be chasing
after Scooby Doo and the gang or/and in confusion it could be switched around.
Character developments, performances and voice
performances: they are reliable versions of their
character types, which can be reflected on these performances or/and voice
performance, Danny DeVito is the only one that took what he had and ran with it
so his performance is good for the rest theyyou either got performances which
did the job or I didn’t pick up on such as Jadred Leto as characters, I don’t
want to give too away about these characters as they are a part of the mystery.
But likewise the person I went to watch this film with had to point this out to
me that he was in this film, even though his name is in the beginning of the
opening credits/scenes, I had forgotten or I mustn’t have been paying
attention.
This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; what can I say about this
film really? It is a generic family oriented [target audience based film.]
Before I continue I should say full disclosure I haven't seen The Haunted
Mansion 2003 as of this content being created. But let's be completely honest
here who gave the green light for this reboot? Because the 2003 version was not
that successful either, it is one of those film titles that you can say we may
have gotten away with one there, as from the budget of $90 million it recouped
$182.3 million [this is not including any other expenditure,] but
hypothetically speaking let's give it the benefit of the doubt and let's give
it a small profit margin. But this reboot will not have the same luxury in the
slightest, because as things stand they are looking at roughly $86 million loss
and obviously I expect this to come down a little to maybe if they are lucky
$75 million loss. That way they can at least say after everything is said and
done may be we just about got 50% of our money back.
