Donnie Brasco: is an undercover Special Agent, real identity FBI
Special Agent Joseph D. Pistone [Johnny Depp:] he has been working undercover
for two years to collect Intel on the Mafia which in the long run will hopefully lead to many arrests and convictions, at home he has a wife Maggie Pistone [Anne Heche:] she has
mostly been raising their three children on her own. Whilst her husband has
been working as a jeweller trying to infiltrate the Mafia, eventually a member
of the Mafia Lefty Ruggiero [Al Pacino:] a life term member of the Mafia, that
takes Donnie Brasco under his wing and teaches him the ways of the Mafia.
Art:
in the opening credits there is a mixture between black-and-white stills of our
lead character and other things: this is a elegant and good way to start the
film.
The
frame work and the pacing of this 127 minute film is good, as it is based on
real-life events, it has a story to tell and smoothly gets on with it.
Comedy:
there are a few comedy moments such as for an example Ruggiero is asleep on the
beach and we have other Mafia members filling his pocket with sand, in fact
they have been very busy indeed as he is sleeping under this big mound of sand
and yes eventually he does wake up.
Action:
this is also limited to some guns being used and discarding bodies.
Character
developments and performances: generally speaking most of these character
developments are all good, but we now come to the main focus of this film and
that would be Johnny Depp as FBI Special Agent Joseph D. Pistone/Donnie Brasco
and Al Pacino as Lefty Ruggiero: as FBI Special Agent Joseph D. Pistone slowly
to begin with begins to lose himself and becomes more like Donnie Brascoe in
personality traits as Brascoe and Ruggiero care of one another and for
Ruggiero; eventually he just wants to get on a boat and sail way from all of
this has he has been in this as I have already indicated lifestyle for a long
time, so as you can see/read Depp and Al Pacino are the driving
force/partnership behind this film.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good: if you like Mafia films take a look at this film, it also has some awards accredited to its name. 2 Winners Boston Society of Film Critics Awards BSFC Award Best Actor Al Pacino Unanimously and National Board of Review, USA 1997 NBR Award Best Supporting Actress Anne Heche For Wag the Dog. 16 Nominees that includes Academy Awards, USA 1998 Oscar Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published Paul Attanasio and Chlotrudis Awards 1998 Chlotrudis Award Best Actor all from the same event/awards ceremony Best Actor Johnny Depp, Best Actor Al Pacino and Best Screenplay Paul Attanasio.
