Review Time

Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/shooting/stabbing/cutting/electrocution/hit and run/animal cruelty/suicide/burning/medical/child abuse - specifically towards girls. Because of the ongoing conflict when this was first dictated I should point out that this film has connections to the Soviet Union.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow revisits her past to put it to bed: I am paraphrasing and in a nutshell, she meets up with a ex-mission family of hers, to take down this Soviet Union black Ops operation known as "Red Room" and its leader Dreykov [Ray Winston.] He is responsible for creating Natasha Romanoff[younger; Ever Anderson/older; Scarlett Johansson] and her closest person to be her sister Yelena Belova [younger; Violet McGraw/older; Florence Pugh] into Soviet assassins known as "Black Widows" and he is still doing it to this very day; but his methods are more advanced these days. But we move on to the closest people that they get to call mother and father; Melina Vostokoff [Rachel Weisz;] yes she is also a Black Widow and finally we have Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian [David Harbour.]

The biggest problem with this film is it users a very old model of a superhero script/film outlay [MCU; Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1 from 2008 to 2012; I am going to say 2011 this is when we had the singler titles before Marvel Avengers Assemble in 2012; because the conclusion to this Phase was perfect,] which I have very little problem with these films I should very quickly state on some research looking over my old content the only one that didn't get high praise in fact it was poor was The Incredible Hulk 2008 [on a side note; but at least it was slightly better than Hulk 2003 - this one is set outside of the MCU.]

But I digress; but as you may have noticed it isn't 2008 to 2011 anymore, in fact this film is released in 2021 so even if I was to take 2011 this model of the script is roughly 10 years out of date as the MCU has adapted and gone through evolution stages throughout the years this standard of script/film outlay doesn't really cut the mustard any more. I mean any other film including this one it will get you a solid positive mark, but not to the usual even average high standards of an MCU title and as this film roughly goes on for 134 minutes it is good, but it is just that good as it does its job without any fuss and delivers what it is meant to deliver. A combining problem is a clear and when I say clear I mean crystal clear problem that this film has is the fact we are dealing with one of the founding and legendary characters/performers of the MCU in Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson] firstly she deserved better than this and secondly the opening transitional sequence from Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow [younger; Ever Anderson/older; Scarlett Johansson] is garbage, better yet it is something I would expect from the DCEU [DC Extended Universe] or Worlds Of DC or whatever they want to be called.

I was hoping that in this project they were going to explore and put focus on this part of her life like in other MCU projects we have seen bits and pieces or references in one way or another to her hard and difficult life. But I was so wrong we get this opening section and then this transitional opening credits sequence and then we have 21 years later on-screen. So thanks for that [I am being sarcastic,] so consequently because of all of this; we have this tip sheet of what is superhero film should be; action sequences which are long on vehicles or using a military vehicle in the case of Taskmaster [Olga Kurylenko] I know this character has another name, but as this project revealed this much later on in the film, I will play along, but we have these two Black widows sisters on one bike with Romanoff driving with taskmaster in this military vehicle in hot pursuit smashing things up as this individual goes [this is just a section of this action sequence] or/and this escaping prison sequence involving these two and Alexei Shostakov with this mature/adult/dark comedy conversation about what this organisation does to their personal that serve their cause, being polite they are unable to have children, if you want to know any more Belova will fill you in on the details to a certain extent; but check. The character developments and performances being all good, but let's be honest it is a massive positive that these performances are all good, because without them showing good chemistry, such as this ex-mission dysfunctional family character types/chemistry between the characters/performers I have already mentioned this film would have fallen flat on its face for one more example of the comedy we have Belova asking her sister about her landing stance and why she does it, in fact she tries it and she doesn't like it with cringing; this is a running joke, but it reinforces the sisterly bond these two have; check and finally as it relates to the art the scenery and so on looks good; check.

This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; you can clearly see/read that this film was only ever going to be given this mark, yes as I have already said this film is designed to get given this mark; by the usage of this check list, so it achieved what it set out to do and that is itThere is one ending credit scene right at the end and this film has some awards accredited to its name; 10 Winners and 30 Nominees, which include Win Critics Choice Super Awards CCA Super Award Best Actress in a Superhero Movie Florence Pugh and same event Nominee Best Actress in a Superhero Movie Scarlett Johansson. But for balance we do have this as well; Golden Schmoes Awards 2022 Nominee Golden Schmoes; Biggest Disappointment of the Year.
