This is a run-of-the-mill origin storyline of The Shadow Warriors: so straight off the bat this is a prequel of Assault on Devil's Island 1997 Link https://averagemansreviews2017.blogspot.com/2022/10/assault-on-devils-island-1997-by.html but we the viewers are meant to know that. The reasons I think this is a prequel is because the standard things to indicate that, some of these characters don't know one another, default the character developments [so there is no comedy whatsoever from Martin Kove as Andy Power] and right at the end of this film The Shadow Warriors walking towards the camera over ending credits with Roy Brown [Carl Weathers] saying voice-over "Shadow Warriors now and forever." So here is a basic description of the storyline for this film a Navy Seal unit The 7 Swords/8 Swords leader Mike McBride [Terry Hulk Hogan] is seeking revenge for the death of two members of his unit, now before I continue I am going to say I am sure about one name, but like 80% on the other; JJ and Manny [I have no names for these two performers so they are unknown to me.]

The pacing of this roughly 95 minutes film is very much a template of what an action film showed in tale on every single level like a checklist; solidly good pacing check [ as least they have turned down/tone down the background music, don't get me wrong it is still there, but at least it is better.]

Action and the Art; be it parachuting out of a plane or underwater with sharks and then we have McBride vs. Creagan [Billy Blank;] this is all good action and art and yes on like the previous film I picked up on Blank relatively straight away; check and check.

The character developments and performances: on both counts they are solidly reliable versions of what they are meant to be; so check and check.

This film receives: 4/10, this film is mixed; full disclosure I would have given this project an additional mark, if I didn't have to work out if this was a prequel or a sequel, I generally and this is completely 100% true, because I have been around films for quite a few years now, I generally thought that maybe someone may have had problems releasing this project, so they released the second one first and then had resolved the issues on this project to have it released. Yes I know if you look on the front cover these two DVDs you have a 1 and a 2 in the right order. But it was only until "Shadow Warriors now and forever." I got the idea/the penny had dropped that this was a prequel and without naming any names a character dies [apparently] in this film, but is in the previous/sequel project. As you can see and I have proven this film follows a checklist of what an action sequence should be and because of this; it is what it is and that is a solid action film that also has some awards accredited to its name Leo Awards 1999 Leo Best Overall Sound in a Feature Length Drama and Best Animation Program or Series Mark Ralston.
