Storyline/Character [Character developments,] Action,
Comedy, Art and Performances: all
these components combined in one way or another and likewise they are all at
minimum solidly good and the same can be said for the pacing; it uses the
storyline formula of foreign alien [Sonic the Hedgehog voiced by Ben Schwartz] on to this planet known as Earth
[more specifically Green Hills, Montana; USA] which he lives in secret and
minus Crazy Carl [Frank C. Turner;] which has seen him and has this nickname
for Sonic; Blue Demon, but no one else believes him.
Everything
was going well until Sonic after pretending to play baseball [ he plays all
these positions and also commentates] on losing his temper after generating
this massive electrical charge from going around and around this baseball
pitch; he generates so much power that he shuts down anything electrical for
miles.
Now
high ranking personnel that protect and serve the United States of America
[from the Pentagon,] believe this to be potentially a terrorist act by using a
EMP [Electromagnetic Pulse] after very small discussion they decide to send
in Dr. Robotnik/Doctor Eggman [Jim
Carrey] to find out what happened but don't worry Sonic will find help in known
as Sonic as Doughnut Lord and Pretzel Lady a.k.a. husband-and-wife; the Sheriff
of Green Hills Thomas "Tom" Michael Wachowski and a Veterinarian Maddie Wachowski [James Marsden and Tika
Sumpter.]
So
very quickly to cover my back, before I receive a backlash for this; in this
film they do use both names of Carrey's character in this film so if it is good
enough for them, it is good enough for me. There is a little bit more of this
film be for the closing credits or through the ending credits; this Sega sequence
is good; in a nutshell; the viewers see squares of games/properties owned by
Sega in the squares and as it spans out we get Sega [in its legendary blue and
white text and a black background with "Sega" being spoken on top
followed by Original Film [also all in capitals] in the colour system of blue
and red, we move on to this highly imaginative run through of this film done in
the style of the Sonic the Hedgehog videogame franchise or ending credits, we
get to see a character that we will see in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 2022.
To
give this review a little bit more substance Dr. Robotnik/Doctor Eggman [Jim
Carrey] brings a lot to this film in every way shape or form for one example
when he is running tests on one of sonic's quill in his armoured/laboratory
mobile [ you won't be able to miss it; it is a massive lorry with mostly a dark
colour system,] but I digress I won't highlight everything in this sequence of
events, but whilst this computer is analysing this specimen we have Dr.
Robotnik/Doctor Eggman in this high level of virtual reality without the helmet
on; the reason why I can say it is virtual reality is because then in the
second program he gets chased by this T Rex which he allows to bite his head
off; then he does some more dancing without his head on and then it appears
again. This is one of those performances that either Jim Carrey can pull off or
the legendary late and great Robin Williams; where Carrey has to be serious and
comical simultaneously, but in different percentages of mixtures throughout
this film what is required at that specific point in time; which in turn
creates this potentially recurring and legendary role for Carrey as in
regardless of how many film titles they do for this Sonic the Hedgehog
live-action film franchise they better be contracting Carrey for the
foreseeable future.
This
film receives: 7/10, this film is good; in fairness and balance this is one of
those film titles that has been clearly designed to do the foundation work for
potentially later film instalments, so and I am sure they will do this as long
as they move things on a decent amount in this sequel, freshen things up a
little bit as in progression hopefully the sequel in 2022 should receive
positive from me as well, but for here and now Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik/Doctor
Eggman is precisely why this film project gets given another mark. This film
has also Award credited to its name; Won 3; for an example; Critics Choice
Super Awards 2021; CCA Super Award; Best Villain in a Movie; Jim Carrey.
Nominations 8; for an example; Critics Choice Super Awards 2021; CCA Super
Award; Best Actor in a Superhero Movie; Ben Schwartz
