Clash of the Titans 1981 by AverageMansReviews
Review Time
Warning:
there are flashing effects/colourful effects/torture/animal
cruelty/decapitation/burning/stabbing
Storyline: it
follows Perseus/Hamlin a son of Zeus/Olivier, mother of Danaƫ/Taylor as he
firstly grows up and secondly find himself on an adventure; the pacing is solid
and it knows what it is doing from beginning to end.
Action/Art/Comedy:
the Action and Art firstly go hand-in-hand in this project such as when
Perseus/Hamlin takes on Medusa with two Jabba Soldiers with him [Jabba is name
of a Kingdom in this film; apologies if I have spelt it wrong.] But this is the
strongest asset in this film with the stop motion animation; it really does capture
Medusa in all her glory; yes it is a very good sequence of events of what we see of it, but I just wanted
this sequence to go longer than what it does, that is the only thing that lets it down for me; so I would have said it was excellent if it was longer. Then the Art and Comedy now and
again go hand-in-hand when this mechanical owl comes into the film; his name is
Bubo and when he first lands in this film on this branch of the tree and
because of his weight the branch breaks and consequently he lands on the ground
below. Perseus/Hamlin is the only one that can understand his mechanical
sounds/workings way of communication and on a quick side note the real-life
Bubo character [that belongs to Athena/Fleetwood is very beautiful and majestic
any time we see this character on-screen.]
Characters/Performances: they are all good; with a solid cast of performances.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; it is a pleasant film for a
Sunday afternoon which funny enough I watched this on a Sunday afternoon. If
there are any fans of Maggie Smith and or Burgess Meredith they are both in
this film; Smith as Thetis and Meredith as Ammon [if it should happen you need
a reminder of where do I know that name from? It would be the Batman 1966-1968
TV program as The Penguin and the Rocky film franchise as Mickey Goldmill.]
This project also has some Awards attached to its name 8 altogether; 2 Winners,
this is just one of its Awards; Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy &
Horror Films, USA 1982; Saturn Award; Burgess Meredith and 6 Nominations; which
includes Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA 1982;
Saturn Award; Best Supporting Actress; Maggie Smith.
