Review
Time
Warning: there
is flashing effects/colourful effects/medical component/cutting of or shooting
in, breaking of body or inn body or healing of the body or
self-harming/vomiting.
Storyline: it
is good and without giving too much away based on how this film has been left
and on a little bit of research there will be a sequel at some point in the
future [I'm just going to say hopefully just in case for some reason it does or
doesn't materialize.] I am going to take the pacing from a different
perspective, but it will make sense whenever this film has its lead
character/performer [Andy a.k.a. Andromache of Scythia/Charlize Theron]
on-screen at the beginning stages, I would say comfortably until the middle stages
this film has an all round much better feel and direction to it; after this the
film knows what it is doing and get on with it, but still this project feels
better with our lead character/performer on-screen or maybe not on-screen at
this time, but may be in the next shot or something like this.
Action/Art/Characters/Comedy/Performances: now including the on-screen chemistry these
components all go hand-in-hand in one way or another; these combat sequences
are good; for this example we have Andy/Theron doing combat with so many, many
armed individuals in a Church and it looks beautifully chaotic. But I really
hate the background music to any of these action sequences, it does these
action sequences even just the solidly good action sequences a disservice; it
is this generic loud music garbage.
I mean what they could have done is put some Symphonic Metal to
it [yes this is a genre of music - in short a blend of metal and
classical music.] To put across to their viewers that some of these characters
have been alive for a extremely long time, so using this background music with
their fighting style of ruthlessly deadly but also efficiently elegant these
action sequences would have been better experienced by me [basically better
than good] and it would have been a better representation of their characters
as well, instead of getting told or shown we could have felt it and seen it all
wrapped up into one as well.
We have a newbie into being immortal [Nile/Layne]
so to prove that she is like Andy/Theron just new at this to Copley/Ejiofor she
shoots herself in the foot; this is one element of the character developments;
as it shows she is a newbie from the perspective of yes you may be immortal,
but she can be damaged [self-healing depending on the injury or wound or killed
is depending how long the self-healing process takes,] but eventually this
immortality runs out which we are led to believe may take hundreds upon
hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of years.] But in this one element it also
shows an element of comedy as she is surprised shooting herself hurts.
The performances and the on-screen chemistry is all
good, but as I have already referenced to Andy/Theron makes a big positive
impact in this project and whilst I have brought this up again; if there is going
to be a sequel please get her contract as soon as possible.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; now usually I would
section things off and talk about them individually, but as these components
very much go hand-in-hand; I was thinking I would just briefly talk about the
Art individually here; there are some good looking landscapes in this film [in
fact from now on I may do this kind of thing again with depending on the
project in question;] so there is only one way I can finish this review and
that is by saying this; if there are any fans of Charlize Theron out there in
Internet land check this film out. [On a quick side note here are just three Symphonic Metal Bands Apocalyptica Nightwish and Within Temptation. Warnings/Disclaimer: just
to cover my back there is more than likely adult wording/lyrics and content; I
know this may sound obviously but I just wanted to make myself 100% crystal clear that if you go searching
for these bands or any other I will not be held responsible for it; these are
just examples of Symphonic Metal Bands.]
