Review Time: this sequel is good
Fundamental elements: there are
voice-over elements, cultural elements, background music, mental imagery,
slow-motion effects, no subtitles when another language is being used, time
jumps and place jumps.
The
movement; I don't have much to say here, it settles down instantaneously [the
film begins throughout the opening credits] and it takes things from there with
the confidence it knows what it is doing at all times.
Back stories/Origin storylines/Storyline: the back stories either get shown to the viewers [opening to this
sequel] or research or depending where you are we get to live it or it gets
discussed in the dialogue exchanges and we have the Neuralyzer back stories
changes as well. I can't say too much about the origin storylines but this; it
goes full circle [the viewers will see it] and it will get discussed in the
dialogue exchanges.
This is
where I have to rip this sequel to shreds; be it the back, origin or the
storyline this is where this sequel falls down a lot and yes I will have to be
somewhat vague on this point just so that I don't give too much away. [But when
you come to see this film you will understand what I am talking about,] so
basically what we find out in this sequel comes out of nowhere, from this
perspective now unless I have missed something [I know I haven't,] but you
would think Agent K./Kay at some point would have discussed this thing with
Agent J./Jay or at the very least you would sew these seeds may be in the first
two titles or just specifically the first sequel [I mean if they did over both
previous titles it would have been an interesting character layer for Agent
K./Kay/Lee Jones to get his teeth into but as it is; this big reveal is sweet
but if they spent more time building this up over the previous two instalments
or giving your viewers an indication there is something more there they would
have got a better pay off.
Before I
receive any form of backlash; I am aware that between the second film title and
this one there is roughly 10 years, but my point is still valid on the grounds
that, by the end of the second film they could have indicated that Agent
K./Kay/Lee Jones had made peace with the idea of not telling Agent J./Jay/Smith
because of not wanting to hurt him in any way shape or form, so that if this
film didn't get made the viewers at the time had closure, but as this film did
get made they could have gone with Agent K./Kay/Lee Jones is getting weighed
down by this secret, so as you can see/read either way would have worked.
My final
point is this; in one way or another it breaks the rules of time travel where
in this scene; you have Agent J./Jay and this other character/performer high up
outside this building where he specifically makes this point do not interfere
with K. but Agent J. seems to forget this even though he basically repeats what
this character/performer says in this scene and Agent J./Jay tells younger
Agent K./Kay future information
Action sequences/Comedy level/Artistic visions: now for the action sequences and the comedy level; they can be
seen/heard as a separate element or linked into other elements like it's two
predecessors such as when we have Agent J./Jay and younger Agent K./Kay where
they are on these Monocycle where and it is Agent J./Jay's first time on it and
he ends up upside down on it, after taking some instructions from younger Agent
K./Kay there is a good chasing sequence
The artistic
visions; we have the worms playing bagpipes and singing [the characters from
the previous two films] and this other character/performer playing the guitar
[yes the same character/performer which I have already mentioned in this review
already] and how Agent J./Jay travels through time is an interesting and
creative interpretation.
Character developments/Performances/Voice performances: they are all good minus 2 characters/performers; good
chemistry/friction [depending where you are; is depending what you get.] Now
don't get me wrong there is good chemistry/friction between Agent J./Jay/Smith
and younger Agent K./Kay/Brolin, but you can't beat the chemistry/friction
between Agent J./Jay/Smith and Agent K./Kay/Lee Jones this partnership is
irreplaceable, on a quick side note in no way shape or form I have nothing
against Brolin, it's just Smith and Lee Jones and their characters in this
trilogy just have IT working off one another.
This film receives: 7/10, as I have
already said this film is good
