Warning: there is flashing effects/colourful effects/domestic terrorism of
the RIA/shooting/impaling/strangling/medical
After Authentic RIA; The incoming
members new blood of the RIA which they are connected: have blown up OBT Bank, tragically killed in many people including
Lam [Liu Tao:] a young woman who had just been dropped by her father [which he
is nicely protective over] to pick up her dress for this school event. Quan
Ngoc Minh/"The Chinaman" [Jackie Chan:] owner of a Chinese takeaway
[full disclosure the name gets mentioned once at some point in this film,] goes
seeking answers which eventually means he heads over to Ireland to have a
face-to-face with Deputy First Minister Liam Hennessy [Pierce Brosnan:] now
politician, but once and still has links to the IRA it is more the case of
unofficially these days but still has them. After calmly not getting anywhere
with this face-to-face, it is time for Mr. Ngoc Minh to his other set of skills
as an ex-Vietnam Special Ops Forces Soldier [once again full disclosure yes
this film made reference to the fact that he is US trained, but I went with
Vietnam, because this is where he is from and it shows it as well.]
The framework and pacing of this 113
minutes film is fundamentally sound, but a little bit slower for my taste.
Action: straight off the bat yes and I don't mean this disrespectfully but
Chan is still doing his own action sequences his advancing years, so for an
example you will see him falling off the roof to then swing on this drainpipe
of this B&B to then continue this action sequence, so yes the action
sequences are of his ridiculous high standards and on top of that we have some
make your devices sequences that even the A-Team would be proud of minus any
funky background music, unfortunately without giving too much away we don't get
to see a vast majority of the tracks being set, if my memory is correct then we
get to see one being set up and executed by the usage of a cigarette.
Character developments and the performances: are on both counts good, on reflection Chan is very deserving of his
nominee award, he makes his film and without him it would be nothing, as a father
figure and an ex-Vietnam Special Ops Forces Soldier he does go through the
range of emotions. I mean for the older generations if you like Charles Bronson
as Paul Kersey from Death Wish 1974 film, I mean this film right here isn't as
dark as Death Wish and it is different, but there are similarities as in a
father wanting peace or revenge for their daughter.
This film receives: 6/10, this film is good; it is a solidly good film and it has an
award accredited to its name Huading Award Best Actor in a Motion Picture
Jackie Chan.
