Warning: there is racism/slavery/domestic violence/sexual assault/stabbing/shooting/cutting/decapitation/shopping/animal cruelty/beheading/chopping/breaking/burning/impaling/medical.

The Ghezo vs. the Oyo Empire: our backdrop is in West Africa, Kingdoms of Dahomey in 1823. King Ghoezo [John Boyega] had these very fierce female warriors by the name of the Agojie that would put foot to posterior and take no prisoners led by General Nanisca [Viola Davis] that for two examples rescue women from a life of slavery and also protect the kingdom, but now and again she will but heads with this high-spirited 19-year-old trainee by the name of Nawi [Thuso Mbedu.] The Oyo Empire have General Oba Ade [Jimmy Odukoya] and I just want to get this elephant out of the room, both sides have experience or are dealing with the slave trade in one way or another.

The pacing for this 125 minutes film is generally speaking good, as there is something always happening, but for me somewhere in the middle it loses a little bit of itself as its general momentum, but then again it picks itself up and then finds itself again.

Art; I like it all from the scenery, landscapes, cultural reconciliation for an example costumes and accessories. I mean this in a positive light; they went out of their way to transport them viewers into this world and the past with flying colours.

Action; what can I say about them other than the actual combat sequences [there is also training sequences] they literally take no prisoners in these action sequences; there is plenty of intent of harming and neutralising their targets, yes I have chosen to put this very matter-of-fact, because it is a much cleaner way of describing what actually happens.

Character developments and the performances; the character developments are all good; but it all comes down to the performances of this cast, I am going to put this in a way that I know I am safe to say this; the Caucasian performers are good, but all the rest are excellent as they put in well-established performances as in these characters know who they are or if they don't know they are yet they definitely know what they don't want in life. The only really sad thing about this film is; when this was first dictated, it doesn't have any positive awards to its name and it would be a massive shame if it doesn't have any awards to its name for any of these performers or art or anything really.

There is a very, very, tiny sprinkle in this film and I will say this twice, this and I'll say that again this is not a comedy if or when you come to watch this film at some point remember this; Rule 1; "Obey Izogie"  Izogie is a high ranking Agojie potrayed by Lashana Lynch.

This film receives: 8/10, this film is excellent; on reflection I have decided to award another mark based on the performances I have already mentioned, I know this film still has pacing issues for a while in this film, but generally speaking the performances are excellent as I have already said and this is speculation on my part, they could always do a sequel, but based on some research as things stand once again when this review was first dictated, based on statistics meaning the box office taking; looking to be a tiny profit margin if anything, they may not consider doing this, just based on these numbers, this is nothing personal it is just how the film industry works and one final thing there is one extra scene at the end of the first lot of ending credits and just to cover my back I didn't watch this second section of ending credits, because I needed to go to the bathroom so I don't know if there is another ending credit scene, probably not but you never know apologies for that.
