Review Time

Warning: there are flashing effects/colourful effects/burning/medical/animal cruelty/shooting/stabbing/childbirth/feeding.

Storyline/Characters [Character developments]/Performances/Action/Art: these components combined in one way or another in this project; the viewers are welcomed into this project by Princess Irulan/Madsen on-screen to begin with this background/storyteller and continues with the storyteller throughout this film but just voice. But I will give you an ballpark of the storyline; Good guys House Atreides [Paul Atreides lead character/MacLachlan] and the others vs. the Bad guys [Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV/Ferrer] and others and involving this like gold dust stuff known as "Spies" basically whomever has control over the substance controls the universe. In short if you want a strongly based science-fiction film somewhere between Star Wars [the original golden trilogy between 1977-1983] and Flash Gordon 1980 you will find this project in the middle. The pacing is always something the moving to bring its other components in and out of this project on a rotation system, so it just has to keep things consistently moving and rotating things in and out, but having said that this project does get to leggy towards the end as it does feel like "When is this film going to end?" It does run out of steam a bit just about pulling into the station of the ending credits.

There is consistently in a monologue being used in this film [so if you like it; you are going to like it, but if you don't like in a monologue; it will probably get on your nerves;] for me it is what it is; I don't mind it.

Characters [character developments] and the performances; are a good they have a model and they stick to their models.

Now moving on to the action and art; for one example I will have to choose Paul Atreides/MacLachlan vs. Halleck/Stewart sparring with intent to harm as in Halleck/Stewart goes in with the intent to harm. I have just chosen this sequence because it is always good to see Patrick Stewart in action, but more specifically they have these force-field which can be activated I think they are on their wrists [once again I think how they work is they can slow down anything that breaks through them so it gives you the time to potentially but not always as you will see in this film to get out of the way or back off] and the other reason I have chosen this sequence is because when these protective force fields are in effect these individuals look like something out of MineCraft the videogame not the colour system but the actual squareness or rectangleness of these force-fields.

This film receives: 7/10, this film is good; but like I have already referenced if you are going to watch this film, you are going to have to be really, really into your science-fiction, because not only is it heavy on its dialogue exchanges it has lots of science-fiction visual content as well. Now on a little bit of research; this film does feel like it could have done with a sequel and of course I say this after this research it could have done with a sequel, based on the grounds of it comes from a series of novels by Frank Herbert [first novel; Dune 1965] and still going on to this very day by his Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. The final thing is this project has Won 2 Awards; Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA 1985; Saturn Award; Best Costumes; Bob Ringwood and in the interest of fairness and balance I should point out this project also won The Stinkers Bad Movie Awards 1984; Stinker Award; Worst Picture; Raffaella De Laurentiis.] Nominations 5; just for two examples; Academy Awards, USA 1985; Oscar; Best Sound Bill Varney Steve, Maslow, Kevin O'Connell and Nelson Stoll and Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA 1985; Saturn Award; Best Science Fiction Film.
